Every second Friday of every month, Walkabout Tremont brings together the whole neighborhood and, in warmer weather, the special events spill out into the streets. Engaging entertainment and a family-friendly atmosphere run late into the evening as shops and galleries extend their hours.
ArtWalk to Walkabout
When artists flocked to Tremont in the late ’80s, property was cheaper and the area was considered “edgy.” Flash forward and a group of artists started gathering momentum by collaborating and hosting events. In 1993, the ArtWalk started with seven businesses and spread street-by-street until it incorporated all of Tremont.
By 2016, the ArtWalk started to feel its age. Tremont wasn’t as “edgy” or as cheap as it used to be, but art still held its own space in the neighborhood so a group of volunteers got together to revitalize and rebrand the event. The ArtWalk morphed into Walkabout Tremont, a name that included the shops, restaurants and bars that participate alongside the galleries, pop-up art, and street performers.
